Oppo made the best foldable phone, again

The Find N6 stands out as a remarkable foldable phone, primarily due to its exceedingly subtle crease.

Consumers often point to several reasons for hesitance in purchasing foldable phones. Elements like price, battery life, and camera quality reflect how manufacturers often balance features to address the costs associated with folding technology. Other factors, such as durability and size, represent practical design challenges that have largely been addressed. However, the presence of a crease has always appeared to be an inherent limitation of foldable devices.

Oppo, however, presents a different viewpoint.

The company asserts that the Find N6 is the first foldable device to feature a "zero-feel" crease, one so minimal that users may not even notice it. Although this claim carries a touch of marketing embellishment, Oppo is largely correct. While the crease is not entirely eliminated, its presence is unlikely to deter potential buyers of the Find N6.

This innovation is complemented by other compelling features of the Find N6, including advanced multitasking software, a sleek design, support for a stylus, and robust battery life. Although the camera performance is notably the primary shortcoming compared to Oppo's flagship Find X9 models, the camera capabilities are competitive with the best in the foldable category. Collectively, these qualities establish the Find N6 as the premier foldable phone currently available—albeit only in select markets, specifically in China, a few other Asian countries, as well as Australia and New Zealand; notably, there is no launch planned for the US or Europe. In Australia, the price is set at $3,299 AUD, which is approximately $2,300 USD.

The Good

  • Nearly creaseless display
  • Day-plus battery life
  • Stylus support
  • Excellent multitasking software

The Bad

  • Not fully dustproof
  • Cameras still lag behind slab flagships
  • Expensive

How We Rate

To begin with, the breakthrough in crease visibility is attributable to Oppo's implementation of 3D liquid printing. This innovative technique fills the gaps in the hinge, resulting in a more uniform surface for the foldable screen.

The outcome is quite remarkable. The crease remains visible but only under specific angles that capture light in a certain way; tactile awareness of the crease occurs only when intentionally searching for it. For everyday use, it effectively feels non-existent. When positioned alongside Honor's recently revealed Magic V6, the difference in crease depth and presence is starkly evident.
