LOS ANGELES -- The NFL has revealed that the Super Bowl LX champion Seattle Seahawks will officially kick off the season on Wednesday of Week 1, breaking with the longstanding tradition of the Thursday night opener.
This decision aligns with the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers, who will be launching their respective seasons in Melbourne, Australia, with a game that is slated to air on Thursday night in the United States.
The Seahawks' game is set to air on NBC at 8:20 p.m. ET, although the league has not yet disclosed their opponent for this matchup.
In Australia, the Rams and 49ers will be competing on Friday morning at 10:35 a.m. local time, which corresponds to 8:35 p.m. ET in the United States. Currently, there is no announced broadcast partner for this particular game.
Notably, this marks the first occasion since 2012 that the NFL has initiated its season on a Wednesday night. The last instance was a contest featuring the Super Bowl XLVI champion New York Giants against the Dallas Cowboys.
