Martinez apologises for outburst and fined by Man Utd

Lisandro Martinez, the defender for Manchester United, has publicly apologized following his contentious comments directed at the club's management.

In the wake of United's Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, Martinez remarked that the club had failed to provide head coach Michael Carrick with a suitably equipped squad.

After a meeting with club officials later that week, the Argentine international released a formal statement.

"I met today with the club's leadership and the manager," Martinez conveyed in a social media post.

"It was a constructive conversation, during which we were able to exchange perspectives and openly discuss the events following Tuesday's game.

"My passion for football runs deep, and the frustration from our loss prompted me to voice my feelings in a manner that may not have been appropriate—this I deeply regret."

It has been reported that Martinez has been subject to a formal discipline, receiving a fine due to his comments.

Carrick is scheduled to address the media on Friday before their upcoming match against Leeds United on Sunday.

Currently, his team sits 13th in the Premier League standings with six points from six matches, having secured only two victories from their first nine outings this season.

Following the defeat to Atletico, Martinez expressed a desire for increased investment in the Manchester United squad and called for "more from our technical director, Jason Wilcox."

He later clarified that his previous remarks stemmed from "anger and frustration," asserting that he has "faith in my teammates, our manager, and everyone involved in propelling this club forward."

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane characterized the current circumstances at the club as resembling "a bit of a circus" during a discussion on The Overlap podcast.

In his Thursday statement, Martinez emphasized, "Our club is strongest when united, and I acknowledge that my comments at that time were counterproductive to that unity.

"I am aware that every individual at Manchester United is committed to realizing our collective goal: to deliver the success that this club and its supporters rightfully deserve.

"With this matter now resolved, we aim to focus entirely on achieving victories together."

It remains uncertain whether Carrick will choose to include Martinez in the squad for the away fixture against Leeds.

Furthermore, there are growing concerns regarding the center-back's long-term status at Old Trafford.

His existing contract is set to expire at the season's end, although the club retains the option to extend it for an additional year.

While the controversy surrounding his recent statements appears to have been addressed, the club has yet to determine whether to activate the contract option.
