Stephen Colbert Plays April Fools' Prank on Audience with Trump Speech Commentary

During a recent episode, Stephen Colbert executed an elaborate prank on his audience by offering a favorable review of Donald Trump’s address regarding the Iran war.

“It was a significant evening across the major broadcast networks,” The Late Show host stated. “At 9 p.m., Donald Trump delivered a national prime time address. It was succinct, articulate, and united the country in a collective mission.”

As laughter erupted from the audience, Colbert promptly revealed, “April Fools! Trump gave a speech tonight, coinciding with the first night of Passover. So, whether you practice Judaism or not, I highly suggest consuming four glasses of wine.”

Colbert mentioned that he hadn’t viewed the speech yet due to The Late Show's early recording schedule, and humorously added, “I placed lamb’s blood around my television so that the speech would bypass me.” He acknowledged that the administration had promised “a significant update on Iran.” He then imitated Trump while saying, “My fellow Americans, we are terminating our war in Iran. Let me reiterate. We’re engaging in a war in Iran. I seem to have forgotten why. Is it related to Venezuela?”

After referencing a source who suggested that Trump’s frequent changes in stance are intentional, Colbert remarked, “Yes, it’s strategic! Not even Donald Trump comprehends his own thoughts. Consider this: If he were aware of what he was thinking, it might slip out. That’s why he maintains a perfectly blank mind. Like nature’s most astute adversary, the goldfish.”

Colbert also discussed Trump’s attendance at a Supreme Court hearing the previous Wednesday, where he became the first sitting president to participate in discussions about birthright citizenship. “Well, that resembles mob boss-level intimidation,” Colbert noted.

He proceeded, “If you’re curious about how President Adderall could endure an entire day of legal proceedings, the reality is that he couldn't. The justices found no merit in his administration’s arguments, leading to a ‘humiliated Trump storming out of the disastrous SCOTUS hearing.’ Humiliated or simply perplexed?”
