Zayn has officially released his latest single, “Sideways,” an intimate R&B track that serves as a preview of his upcoming album, Konnakol, slated for release on April 17 through Mercury Records.
The song reflects Zayn's contemplation of a past romance, featuring lyrics such as, “I miss lookin’ at you sideways/ face-to-face with your lips on mine,” and “And our legs on the pillowcase/ sideways, late at night with your love lying next to mine.”
Konnakol is the follow-up to Zayn's 2024 album, Room Under the Stairs, which was a more stripped-back project created in collaboration with producer Dave Cobb. The lead single from the new album, “Die for Me,” was released last month. Zayn co-produced the album with Malay, with whom he has collaborated on previous projects like Mind of Mine and Icarus Falls.
In a statement regarding the album, Zayn explained, “Konnakol in its definition is the act of creating percussive sounds with one’s voice but what it means to me lies somewhere much deeper. It is a sound that holds the reverberation of a time before words existed. I have always drawn on my heritage for inspiration since I first started making my own music; this album is a development of that understanding, knowing more now than ever, who I am, where I come from and where I intend to go.”
To support the album, Zayn will embark on the Konnakol Tour, consisting of 31 dates globally, starting on May 12 in Manchester, England, at AO Arena. The tour will encompass major cities including London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, and São Paulo, culminating on November 20 in Miami at Kaseya Center.
Zayn is among several former One Direction members who have been releasing new music this year. In January, Louis Tomlinson unveiled his latest LP, How Did I Get Here?, featuring the single “Imposter.” Additionally, Harry Styles released his new solo album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, earlier this month and performed on Saturday Night Live to promote the LP.
