Security Guard Takes 'Full Responsibility' in Chappell Roan Hotel Incident

The security guard involved in a recent incident with pop star Chappell Roan and soccer player Jorginho's stepdaughter has taken to social media to assert that he was acting independently and not as a member of Roan's security team.

In his statement, Pascal Duvier remarked, “I do not normally address online rumors, but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation. I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21st. I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan. The actions I took were not on behalf of Chappell Roan, her personal security team, her management, or any other individuals.”

The situation began when Jorginho shared an Instagram story on Saturday, suggesting that Roan had dispatched her security guard to reprimand his wife and their young daughter after they briefly approached Roan during breakfast at their shared hotel in São Paulo. While Jorginho did not specifically identify his daughter, People magazine reported that it was his stepdaughter, Ada Law, the child of actor Jude Law and Catherine Harding, who is Jorginho's current wife.

The following day, Roan clarified in a social media post that the security guard was not affiliated with her personal team. “I didn’t even see a woman and a child; no one came up to me, no one bothered me,” she stated. “I think these people were staying at the hotel as well. I did not ask this security guard to go up to talk to this mother and child; they did not come up to me; they weren’t doing anything.” Roan expressed regret, saying, “I am sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something, that you would do something, and if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”

In a subsequent Instagram video, Harding addressed the incident, noting that she did not anticipate the situation would escalate to such proportions. She stated, “100 percent, this security guard was not a security guard of the hotel … I don’t know if he was [Roan’s] personal security guard, but he was with her. That is all I know.”

In his Wednesday post, Duvier explained, “I made a judgment call based on information we obtained from the hotel, events I had witnessed in the days prior, and the heightened overall security risk of our location. My sole interaction with the mother was calm and with good intentions, and the outcome of the encounter is regretful.”

It is noteworthy that in 2018, Duvier and his security and protection company, Protect Security, were named in a $6.1 million lawsuit filed by Kim Kardashian’s insurance company, following her armed robbery at the No Address Hotel during Paris Fashion Week. American International Group accused Duvier and Protect Security of having acted “negligently, carelessly, and/or recklessly” in their protection measures for the reality TV star. All involved parties settled the lawsuit in 2020.
