BTS made a memorable appearance on The Tonight Show last night, serving as the musical guest and engaging in an extensive interview with host Jimmy Fallon. Rather than performing in the show’s typical studio setting, BTS opted to present their latest single, "Swim," from their new album, Arirang, at the renowned Guggenheim Museum in New York City.

The performance signified the television debut of “Swim,” a contemplative track characterized by a driving rhythm. The group showcased their talent by performing in various locations throughout the Guggenheim, eventually convening on a circular stage situated on the museum's ground floor.

Prior to the performance, BTS sat down with Fallon to delve into discussions about their album, exploring the themes behind their musical compositions and sharing what they missed about each other during their time apart. Fallon initiated the conversation by inquiring about their reunion. Members expressed their excitement collectively, with RM noting, “In the military, literally, time stops. And after it, time just flows by. We can’t believe that it’s been nine months since all we were discharged.” Jin further contributed, “I felt like I had reunited with family.”

Arirang is BTS's first complete album since 2022, crafted after the members spent two months living together in Los Angeles — their first time under the same roof since 2019. This album derives its name from a traditional Korean folk song, with RM elucidating that it encapsulates an array of emotions, spanning from joy to sorrow.

The band expressed their aspiration for their new music to resonate on a global scale, akin to the sentiments conveyed in Arirang. They also discussed their creative inspirations during their hiatus, indicating that “Swim” embodies the challenges of life and the continuous need to progress despite adversity. J-Hope remarked, “We feel that life has struggles that we overcome every day. People feel different weights and tides in life. But nevertheless, we need to keep swimming and move forward. This is just about the love for life itself.”

In the latter part of the show, the band addressed fan inquiries, covering suggestions for newcomers to BTS as well as light-hearted subjects, which added a personal dimension to the dialogue.
