This Hotel Is 30 Minutes From Grand Teton National Park, but the Views Put You Right In It
At the pool of Hotel Yellowstone in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, expansive floor-to-ceiling windows offer breathtaking views of gently swaying grasses and farmland that stretch to the base of the Teton Range. Upon entering the pool, I leisurely proceeded to the edge, sipping on a complimentary glass of Chandon. Instantly, my stress dissolved as I enjoyed the tranquil surroundings.
The captivating views extend beyond the pool. Set atop the East Gros Ventre Butte, the hotel commands a stunning vista of the Snake River Valley and the Tetons. With its orientation designed to maximize the scenery, the property features facilities including a restaurant and suites that all face this majestic mountain range. Since its opening in August 2024, Hotel Yellowstone has distinguished itself as Jackson Hole's first adults-only accommodation, featuring 36 suites across a sprawling four-acre estate.
The experience begins upon arrival, where guests are greeted not by a traditional front desk, but by a welcoming lobby that resembles the cozy living room of a family ranch in Jackson Hole. Here, a personal concierge facilitates your check-in process, presenting a welcome cocktail and providing an overview of your stay—ushering in the first sight of the awe-inspiring Teton range.
Hotel Yellowstone suites: One layout, four views
During my tour of the hotel, I was led to my room, where my luggage had already been conveniently settled. The room featured a Western aesthetic with plush rugs, a Calacatta marble bathroom equipped with a freestanding tub, and a private patio that showcased the breathtaking mountain views.
Hotel Yellowstone offers four distinct room types: Grand Teton Suites, Grand Reflection Suites, Vista Suites, and Reflection Suites. While they maintain a standard layout, each offers unique perspectives on the landscape. The Grand Teton and Grand Reflection Suites are oriented towards Grand Teton, the tallest peak in the range; Vista Suites provide a western view across the mountains; and Reflection Suites are located by a serene pond. Stepping onto the patio of my Grand Reflection Suite, I enjoyed the soothing sounds of the water below while taking in the grandeur of the mountains ahead. Nightly rates range from $799 to $1,899, varying by room type and travel dates.
Spa at Hotel Yellowstone: A salt room, red-light sauna, massages, and more
The exclusivity at Hotel Yellowstone embodies both an experience and a policy. Access to the restaurant, spa, and grounds is reserved exclusively for hotel guests.
Outside the serene pool area, visitors can relax in a hot tub or partake in contrast therapy, alternating between a dry sauna and a cold plunge for holistic rejuvenation. The on-site spa features a range of services, from therapeutic massages to specialized Forest Therapy Treatments, along with advanced treatments such as red-light therapy and a Himalayan Salt Treatment Room. Additionally, a small yet well-equipped gym is available for guests.
Olivia's at Hotel Yellowstone: Book dinner for sunset
Each morning, breakfast is included in the resort fee, and I looked forward to enjoying a minty passion fruit parfait or cinnamon French toast at Olivia's while watching the sun cast its golden glow over the peaks. For dinner, I strategically secured a reservation timed with sunset, allowing me to witness the day’s final light gracefully sweeping across the valley.
The menu at Olivia's, crafted by Executive Chef Brandon Esposito, is subject to regular changes. During my visit, I savored a fried goat cheese starter accompanied by a delicious smoked chili caramel, which was so enticing, I nearly ordered a second serving. The hamachi crudo was a delightful combination of tangy yuzu, and the New England striped bass was presented with a perfectly crispy skin. On my second evening, despite my plans to dine in Jackson, I chose to return to Olivia's instead.
The restaurant not only serves lunch but also features a lounge area for guests to take in the panoramic views during the day or enjoy evening cocktails after a day of activity or relaxation.
Day trips from Hotel Yellowstone: Two national parks and beyond
The prime location of Hotel Yellowstone makes it convenient for exploring the surrounding area. The Moose Entrance to Grand Teton National Park is approximately 15 miles from the hotel, with Yellowstone National Park's South Entrance situated about 60 miles to the north, accessible in under two hours by car. It is important to note that the South Entrance operates on a seasonal basis, typically open to vehicles from mid-May to late October or early November. As such, summer and early fall are ideal for planning excursions to Yellowstone.
The summer activities organized by Hotel Yellowstone often involve excursions led by local guides into the parks. Options include wildlife safaris and e-bike tours complemented by a picnic. The hotel can arrange guided experiences encompassing full-day tours of Yellowstone, visits to iconic sites such as Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, wildlife viewing in Grand Teton at notable spots like Schwabacher Landing, Mormon Row, and Oxbow Bend; as well as sunrise outings and paddleboarding on serene lakes.
Guests are advised to maintain a safe distance from wildlife. Both the hotel grounds and national parks are home to moose and mule deer, and park regulations stipulate a minimum distance of 100 yards from bears and wolves and 25 yards from all other wildlife, applicable whether on foot or in a vehicle.
In addition to activities in the parks, the hotel can facilitate arrangements for fly fishing, float trips, hiking, whitewater rafting, and stargazing. During the winter months, skiing becomes a significant attraction, with Snow King Mountain located about five miles away, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort 13 miles away, and Grand Targhee Resort approximately 46 miles distant. Please note that skis and snowboards are not permitted in the suites; inquire with the guest experience team regarding storage options when you make your reservation.
Getting to Hotel Yellowstone and around Jackson Hole
It is advisable to fly into Jackson Hole Airport (JAC), located just a 20-minute drive from Hotel Yellowstone, and consider renting a vehicle. This airport is exceptional as the only commercial airport situated within a national park, offering spectacular views of the Tetons upon arrival. While private transfers can be arranged through the hotel, having a rental car affords greater flexibility to explore local attractions and the nearby town of Jackson, which is approximately five miles from the hotel.
For those seeking a classic Western road trip or a larger airport, Idaho Falls Regional Airport (IDA) is roughly two hours away, while Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is about five hours from the hotel. Visitors intending to arrive via Idaho Falls during winter should verify road conditions, as the most direct path crosses Teton Pass, which may be closed due to storm-related hazards or avalanche control measures.
