During a recent shareholder meeting, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that establishing a Meta cloud computing business is "definitely on the table," particularly if the company overspends on data centers and accumulates excess capacity.
Zuckerberg's statements indicate that Meta is looking to capitalize on its significant investments in AI infrastructure as a viable revenue stream. He noted that external companies have already approached Meta to inquire about purchasing access to its computing infrastructure or utilizing its API services for a premium fee.
Nevertheless, Meta has yet to make a definitive decision regarding the sale of these services to outside clients. The company is currently engaged in a vigorous capital spending initiative, with plans to greatly enhance its data center investments to bolster its AI initiatives and the development of agentic computing.
This insight aligns with Meta's overarching strategy to optimize returns on its substantial infrastructure investments while pursuing new revenue avenues beyond its traditional advertising and subscription models.
