The BB-777 is the ultimate in boombox nostalgia
Bumpboxx has crafted a compelling tribute to audio history with its latest offering, the BB-777, which faithfully recreates the legendary Sharp GF-777. Original GF-777 units command prices exceeding $2,000 for working models, yet these vintage pieces lack essential modern conveniences such as Bluetooth connectivity, rechargeable batteries, and CD playback capabilities.
The BB-777 masterfully preserves the essence of the original GF-777, maintaining its dual-cassette configuration, control layout, and speaker specifications printed above the subwoofers. This meticulously designed unit showcases an elegant vintage silver finish complemented by comprehensive physical controls. The modern iteration incorporates contemporary enhancements including a replaceable battery pack, Bluetooth connectivity, and an LCD display. However, the digital VU meters represent a notable departure from the analog meters found in competing models like the Blaster boombox from We Are Rewind.
Features and Specifications
The BB-777 incorporates a sophisticated six-speaker array comprising two Super Woofers with dedicated gain control, two coaxial speakers, and two horn tweeters. This configuration delivers an impressive 270W of total power output, ensuring robust volume capabilities for any environment. The ported speaker design enhances bass response, providing rich low-frequency reproduction.
Beyond its dual cassette decks, the BB-777 features a slot-loading CD player, comprehensive AM/FM/shortwave radio reception, and USB audio playback supporting multiple formats including MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, and AAC. Additional connectivity options include an auxiliary input with included RCA adapter and Bluetooth compatibility. The unit offers direct recording functionality to USB drives from tape decks, CD, or radio sources, facilitating digital conversion and archival purposes. Wi-Fi streaming remains the sole omission from its connectivity suite.
The front panel accommodates two microphone inputs, ideal for traditional applications such as hosting rap battles or break dancing competitions. Two integrated microphones provide convenient recording capabilities for spontaneous audio capture on cassette media.
Availability and Pricing
While equipped with a carrying handle, the BB-777's substantial 28-pound weight makes the included shoulder strap essential for extended transport. Rather than launching directly to market, Bumpboxx has chosen to debut the BB-777 through a Kickstarter campaign. Early supporters can secure a unit for $649, with shipping scheduled for June. Following the campaign, retail pricing will increase to $1,049.
