Jurgen Klopp has expressed his belief that Mohamed Salah could continue his playing career until he reaches the age of 40, following the forward's announcement to depart Liverpool at the conclusion of the season.

Klopp, who departed Anfield in 2024, was instrumental in bringing Salah to the Reds from Roma in 2017.

During his tenure, the Egyptian winger, now 33 years old, amassed an impressive tally of 255 goals for Liverpool, positioning him third on the club's all-time scoring list, behind only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.

In remarks made to BBC Sport prior to an LFC Legends charity match, Klopp stated:

"Salah is an incredible professional. He has established entirely new benchmarks for what it means to be a professional football player—demonstrating unparalleled work ethic and commitment to recovery."

The German manager continued, "While he prepares to leave us, I wouldn't be astonished if he plays for another six or seven years. It's bittersweet, but there is no doubt he is an all-time great, and I take immense pride in being part of his career."

Klopp and Salah achieved remarkable success during their time together, including clinching the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

"He is fully aware that this was the ideal club for him, just as he has been the ideal player for us," Klopp remarked. "Mo and I had significant aspirations, but we never dared to envision achieving such heights. It may take us time to fully appreciate what we've accomplished together—this understanding will come soon. I wish him all the best as he truly deserves it."

When questioned about whether the timing was suitable for both Liverpool and Salah to part ways, particularly given the winger's remaining year on his contract, Klopp referred to it as a "fair deal".

"The decision does not rest with me, but I believe it is right that we have reached this agreement,” the German added. “After so many years, there should be no negative feelings whatsoever, and from my perspective, I cannot observe any."

The Liverpool Legends are set to compete against Borussia Dortmund Legends in the annual LFC Foundation charity match at Anfield this Saturday, with Klopp serving as part of the management team for the hosts.
