On April 1, 2026, President Donald Trump addressed the nation from the White House, highlighting what he deemed to be successes in the ongoing war against Iran. He encouraged American citizens, facing increased living expenses, to "keep this conflict in perspective."
“Many Americans have expressed concerns regarding the recent spike in gasoline prices here at home,” Trump stated, characterizing these rising costs as a “short-term increase” primarily attributed to the Iranian regime’s “deranged terror attacks against commercial oil tankers and neighboring countries.” To date, he has reportedly committed $25 billion to the military campaign in Iran and is seeking an additional $200 billion.
During his remarks, Trump drew comparisons between the current conflict in Iran and previous U.S. military engagements, including World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Iraq War. While he acknowledged that the war in Iran had only entered its second month, he refrained from providing a definitive timeline for its conclusion, instead indicating that the U.S. would intensify its military operations.
“We’re going to hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks. We’re going to bring them back to the Stone Ages, where they belong,” stated the president. He emphasized, “If there’s no deal, we are going to target each and every one of their electric generating plants very hard and simultaneously.”
Earlier in the day, the president conceded that the federal government was prioritizing military expenditures while acknowledging that it was “not possible” to adequately address Americans' fundamental needs, such as daycare, Medicaid, and Medicare. Following his address and commitment to continue military actions in Iran, oil prices surged, and stock values declined, as reported by The New York Times.
