Iran Threatens Retaliatory Attacks Amid Escalating Conflict with US-Israel

Yemen's Houthis have launched missile strikes against Israel for the first time, coinciding with the one-month mark since the initiation of US and Israeli military actions targeting Iran. This escalation has opened a new front in a conflict characterized by significant casualties, displacement of millions, and destabilization of the global economy.

The Houthis, who exert control over a substantial portion of northern Yemen, executed two missile and drone assaults on Israel within a 24-hour period. The Israeli Defense Forces reported successful intercepts of these attacks, but the Iran-aligned militant group has vowed to persist in its efforts to support "resistance fronts in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran."

Until this point, the Houthis had refrained from participating in the current hostilities, unlike their previous actions during Israel's extensive military campaign in Gaza, where their attacks on vessels in the Red Sea disrupted maritime commerce valued at approximately $1 trillion annually. Their involvement in the ongoing conflict coincides with heightened tensions as Iran restricts traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns that the Houthis might once again jeopardize Red Sea shipping by obstructing the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

The recent Houthi assaults came in the wake of assertions by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who indicated that the United States anticipates concluding its military operations against Iran in the coming weeks. This statement arrives alongside the deployment of additional US Marines to the region, providing President Donald Trump with "maximum" flexibility to adjust military strategies as necessary.

Simultaneously, US and Israeli forces have intensified their bombardments over the past 24 hours, with reports from the Israeli military claiming strikes on an Iranian naval weapons research facility. Loud explosions were reported in Tehran as night fell.

Iranian state media indicated that at least five individuals perished in a US-Israeli strike on a residential unit in the northwestern city of Zanjan. Moreover, authorities in Tehran reported that the University of Science and Technology had also been targeted, prompting the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to threaten repercussions against Israeli and US academic institutions in the region.

According to the Iranian Ministry of Health, since the conflict commenced, 1,937 individuals have been killed, including 230 children. Meanwhile, the toll from Israeli strikes in Lebanon continues to climb, with reports indicating that 1,189 people have been killed since March 2.

Recent Israeli air raids have resulted in the deaths of three journalists and nine paramedics in Lebanon, raising the total fatalities among healthcare workers to 51.

President Trump has issued a warning regarding potential strikes on Iranian power stations and energy infrastructure if Iran does not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He has extended the deadline set for this week, providing Iran an additional ten days to respond.

As the situation continues to unfold, both US and Iranian forces appear to have dug in their positions, raising concerns regarding the potential for further escalation and its ramifications for regional stability.
