Iran's National Team Travel Ban
Iran has officially prohibited its sports teams from traveling to countries classified as "hostile," as reported by Iranian state television. This directive comes in light of the impending match of the club team Tractor SC, which is scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia.

The announcement was made on Thursday, following a series of assaults attributed to the United States and Israel targeting Iran, which have heightened tensions and culminated in a declaration of war on February 28.

A statement from Iran’s Ministry of Sports clarified that this travel ban impacts the playoff match involving Tractor FC in the Asian Champions League against Shabab Al Ahli of Dubai, which was planned for next month in Saudi Arabia. The ministry emphasized that "the presence of national and club teams in countries regarded as hostile and unable to guarantee the safety of Iranian athletes and team members is prohibited until further notice."

Although specific countries categorized as hostile were not identified, the ministry instructed the football federation and clubs to notify the Asian Football Confederation regarding the need to relocate the matches.

Moreover, this announcement coincides with the Asian Football Confederation's adjustments to the playoff quarterfinal matches, now scheduled for April 13-14 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

World Cup Context
While the recent statement did not explicitly mention the upcoming World Cup, set to take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States this June and July, negotiations are currently ongoing between Iranian officials and FIFA regarding the relocation of Iran's matches from the US to Mexico. This discussion follows concerns raised by US President Donald Trump regarding the safety of the Iranian team during the tournament.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has indicated that the governing body of international football prefers to proceed with the tournament as originally scheduled, challenging Iran's efforts to shift venue arrangements for its matches.

The Iranian national team is presently conducting its training in Turkiye in preparation for upcoming international friendlies against Nigeria and Costa Rica.
