Doctors announce six-day strike as talks break down

Resident doctors across England are set to begin a six-day strike next month following the collapse of negotiations between their union, the British Medical Association (BMA), and the government.

The BMA announced the industrial action after determining that government representatives had failed to adequately address their compensation demands and concerns regarding staffing shortages across the healthcare system.

This planned walkout represents the most extended single strike period in the ongoing labor dispute and follows over two months of negotiations that commenced at the beginning of the year.

The strike action is scheduled to commence at 07:00 GMT on 7 April, marking the fifteenth work stoppage since the dispute began in March 2023.
