The European Union antitrust regulators have accepted concessions put forth by Sanofi to conclude an investigation into an allegedly misleading campaign that criticized the only rival flu vaccine recommended for at-risk patients. As a result, the company has successfully avoided incurring a fine.

The European Commission raised concerns that Sanofi’s campaign depicted the Fluad vaccine, produced by CSL Seqirus, as inferior to its own Efluelda vaccine. This communication strategy specifically targeted healthcare professionals in Germany and France, regions where Sanofi maintains a dominant market presence, as indicated by the EC.

To address the investigation's findings, Sanofi has committed to launching a corrective communication campaign aimed at rectifying its "potentially disparaging conduct." Additionally, the company has pledged to refrain from similar actions in the future, as stated by Teresa Riberta, the European Commission's executive vice president for Clean, Just and Competitive Transition. The terms of this agreement are legally binding.
