FKA Twigs Reaches a New Peak During 'Body High' Show at MSG
For those who might have been taken aback by the extraordinary performance FKA Twigs presented during her sold-out debut at Madison Square Garden this week, it is essential to recognize her extensive background in the performing arts. The British polymath, who has been honing her craft since childhood, has meticulously developed her career as a dancer and singer over the past decade.
Earlier this year, she achieved a significant milestone by winning her first Grammy for Eusexua, a dance-driven album that not only introduced her to a wider audience but also captivated long-time fans who have supported her since her genre-defying EPs emerged in the 2000s. This momentum has continued, and on Saturday, she made a memorable impact at MSG, delivering an impressive two-hour set that highlighted her diverse talents.
FKA Twigs seamlessly navigated through tracks from various projects, including EP1, Magdalene, Caprisongs, and the latter part of Eusexua, titled Eusexua Afterglow. The evening was promoted as an “FKA Twigs and friends” event, featuring a lineup of voguers and queer ballroom artists, all of whom contributed significantly to the realization of her artistic vision.
A key aspect of the show's success was Twigs's collaboration with her dancers to bring the performance to life. Each performer on stage was fully engaged, with Twigs at the focal point, commanding the attention of the arena. The concert culminated with her poignant rendition of “cellophane,” performed solo, which showcased her emotional depth. The audience responded with a standing ovation as the event drew to a close, with Twigs taking a bow alongside the talented artists who helped make her MSG debut a truly memorable occasion.
